Spinnaker Bay
Relocating from Minnesota to the water-front community of Spinnaker Bay in Long Beach, buyers purchased a home built in the 1980’s. Now, nearly 30 years later the house needed renovations. The Design/Build Team of October 5, provided support with design, materials selection, and budgeting. Design/build was the ideal approach; it shortened construction time, provided a well-defined understanding of costs, and a single point of responsibility.

Inspired with the notion of owning a one-of-a-kind dream home, the owners selected the design/build process for their project. The design-build method integrates design and construction early in the process, and allowed October 5 to order building materials, cabinets, hardware, tile, windows, etc. before construction began. Within a short time the cabinets, tiles, windows, hardware, appliances, etc. were delivered to the job site, inspected and locked inside a large shipping container ready for installation. There were no delays due to missing materials.

Homeowners wanted to focus their remodeling efforts on landscaping, allowing it several years to mature, before beginning the interior remodel. Utilizing October Five’s design/build process, they discussed adding more privacy, water conservation, a focus on native plantings and, if possible, a small fruit orchard.

The house required new kitchen, bathrooms, roofing, windows, doors, plumbing, and an up-to-date 200 amp electrical-service. Homeowners began the design-build process with October 5 Fine Home Builders; it shortens construction timelines, presents a clearer understanding of costs and provides for a single point of responsibility.
